Ripe Jackfruit Fritters / Halasina Hannina Appa / Mulka.

Its the summer time and of course the seasonal time for jackfruits has finally arrived. It is abundantly available in many parts of the country. Many mouthwatering delicacies can be prepared by using both raw and ripe jackfruits. The saddest part of this fruit is that it is highly sticky in texture. If you touch it, then it is a cumbersome process to remove it but I have a tip for the same.  Just grease your hands with a few drops of coconut oil  to remove it easily. I have many recipes that can be prepared out of jackfruit and let me take this opportunity to publish one of them. The aroma of this sweet appa / mulka when prepared is so appealing and strong that any one entering the house may demand for it.

How To Prepare Jackfruit Fritters / Mulka / Appa. 

The time taken to prepare this appa is around 30 minutes and the ingredients mentioned here will yield around 30 mulkas.

Ingredients For Ripe Jackfruit Fritters.


  • Ripe jackfruit pieces - 30 
  • Coconut scrapings - 3 / 4 cup.
  • Jaggery scrapings - 3 / 4 cup.
  • Oil - for deep frying.
  • Salt - a pinch.
  • Raw Rice - 1 cup.
  • Cardamom - 1 / 2 tsp.
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tsp

Method To Make Ripe Jackfruit Fritters.


  • Deseed the ripe jackfruits
  • Now take a mixer jar and transfer coconuts scrapings, jaggery pieces and jackfruit pieces in to it.
  • Grind it into a smooth consistency without adding water.
  • Place the ground ingredients in a bowl.
  • Grind rice in small batches in the same mixer jar adding a little ground jackfruit paste along with it.
  • Transfer it into a bowl.
  • Add cardamom powder, salt and sesame seeds to the bowl and mix it well.
  • Meanwhile heat a deep kadai or a pan with oil in it.
  • When heated, drop small balls of the batter into the oil and deep fry it.
  • Keep stirring at regular intervals.
  • Remove the golden deep fried fritters on an absorbent tissue paper to drain the excess oil from it.

KitchenMasti Points.

  1. Do not add water at any time while grinding the rice and jaggery, lest the batter may turn watery and you may find difficulty in dropping the batter into the hot oil.
  2. You may decrease the quantity of jaggery if the jackfruit is very sweet.
  3. You may replace rice with semolina and avoid grinding the rice but the fritters taste best when prepared out of rice.
  4. You may add rava ( semolina ) to the batter if the batter turns watery.
  5. Do not grind all the coconut scrapings and jackfruit altogether at once in the mixer. Grind it in batches, otherwise you may face hurdles while grinding.
