Mushroom Masala Recipe

Mushroom masala is another gravy which is rich and has a very creamy texture. It goes on well with chapathi, puri, and garlic naan. The preparation of this gravy is an easy task and is less time consuming, so you can prepare this on some party day and save your time. Here, I have used fresh button mushrooms mixed it with some spice powders along with onion and tomato puree. Mushrooms are rich in dietary fibers and plenty of vitamin C. It decreases obesity to a great extent.

How To Prepare Mushroom Masala


The time taken to prepare this gravy is 30 minutes and the quantity mentioned is enough for 3 servings.

Ingredients for Mushroom Masala


  • Button mushroom - 1 packet
  • Onions - 2
  • Tomato - 3
  • Salt - as required
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Garlic - 3
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala - 1 / 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
  • Cashew paste - 1 tbsp
  • Kasuri methi ( dry fenugreek leaves ) - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Cinnamon - 1 inch
  • Oil or ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

Method To Make Mushroom Masala


  • Wash the mushrooms thoroughly and wipe it dry.
  • Dice it into pieces. Preferably, medium sized.
  • Heat a pan with oil in it.
  • Add chopped onions and saute till translucent. Allow it to cool.
  • Now, take a mixer jar and grind the onions into a puree.
  • Heat a pan with butter or ghee in it. 
  • Add cinnamon into it.
  • Now, add the onion paste into it.
  • Puree the tomato and transfer into the pan.
  • Add the chopped mushroom pieces and salt into it. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add the red chilli powder, kasuri methi, garam masala, turmeric powder, green chilli, cashew paste and coriander powder into it.
  • Let the gravy boil on a low heat for around 2 minutes.

Your spicy and rich mushroom masala is ready to be served!!!!

  1. Always use fresh mushrooms from the health point of view. The stale mushrooms are slightly poisonous.
  2. You can add 1 / 2 cup of milk to enrich the gravy.
  3. You can increase or decrease the quantity of ghee as per your taste.
