Gobi Masala / Cauliflower Masala Recipe

Gobi Masala is one of the easiest side dish to be prepared and one of the best accompaniment for chapathi, puri and so on. Here, in this recipe, gobi is mixed with onions and tomatoes along with some spices. There is no complications of preparing onion paste, tomato puree and so on. It is one of the most ideal recipes for working women to save their time during peak hours. Let us get started with it..

How To Prepare Gobi Masala


The time taken to prepare this curry is around 20 minutes and the quantity mentioned here is enough for 6 servings.

Ingredients For Gobi Masala :


  • Cauliflower - 1 big sized.
  • Onions - 2.
  • Tomatoes - 2.
  • Ginger - 1 inch.
  • Garlic - 1 clove.
  • Green chilli - 3.
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp.
  • Coriander powder ( dhania powder ) - 1 tsp.
  • Oil - 3 tbsp.
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp.
  • Salt - as required.
  • Curd ( yogurt ) - 1 /4 th cup. 
  • Coriander leaves - 2 strings.
  • Fennel seeds ( saunf ) - 1 / 2 tsp.
  • Fresh cream - 2 tbsp ( Optional ).


Method To Prepare Gobi Masala : 



  • Chop the cauliflower into big pieces and immerse them in salted water for half an hour.
  • Wash the cauliflower pieces thoroughly and set aside.
  • Heat two tbsp of oil in a pan and fry the cauliflower pieces slightly.
  • Heat the remaining one tbsp of oil and add fennel seeds.
  • Now add chopped onions and fry till brown.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, slit green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt into it.
  • Cook till it is well blended.
  • Add the cauliflower pieces and half cup of water into the pan.
  • Cook on a medium flame till the water dries up.
  • Add curds and mix it well.
  • Finally, decorate it with coriander leaves.

Your spicy gobi masala is ready to be served.!!!

Kitchenmasti Points :


  1. Green chilli paste can be added for a spicier taste.
  2. Since cauliflower tends to have small worms in it, it has to be carefully washed before chopping.
  3. You can also immerse the cauliflower pieces in lukewarm water with a pinch of turmeric in it to be more cautious.
  4. Milk can be added instead of curds for a different taste.
  5. You can also enrich the gravy by adding two tbsp of fresh cream into it.
  6. Garlic is optional.
