Capsicum Palya / Sabzi ( Sauteed Capsicum ) Recipe

This side dish prepared out of capsicum is excellent in taste and can be quickly prepared.I learnt this recipe from one of my relatives. Here in this recipe, capcicum is mixed with jeera and green chillies.This sauteed capcicum goes on well with puri, chapathi and also is very ideal dish to prepare while you are travelling.

How To Prepare Sauteed Capsicum ( Palya ).

This is a simple dish and requires only around 20 minutes of your time and the quantity mentioned here is enough for 3 servings.

Ingredients For Sauteed Capsicum.


  • Green Capsicum - 3 
  • Green chilli - 4.
  • Jeera seeds ( cumin seeds ) - 1 tsp.
  • Salt as required.
  • Coriander leaves - 10 sprigs.
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tsp.
  • Coconut scrapings - 1 tbsp.
  • Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • Onion - 1.
  • Oil - 1 tbsp.

Method To Make Sauteed capsicum.


  • Wash and chop capsicum into thin vertical shaped pieces.
  • Meanwhile grind coconut scrapings, green chilli, jeera seeds, and coriander leaves in a mixer jar along with a little water into a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
  • Heat a pan or a Kadai with 1 tbsp of oil in it.
  • Add jeera, and when it starts to splutter add the chopped onions.
  • Fry in medium flame till it turns translucent. Now add chopped capsicum pieces.
  • Fry it again for around 5 minutes.
  • If the vegetables are dry, then you can add 1 more tbsp of oil.
  • Add turmeric powder, salt, tamarind paste and fry for a minute.
  • Finally add the grounded paste and mix it well.
  • Pour 1/4 cup of water and leave it to simmer for a few minutes.
  • Now switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Transfer it to the serving bowl.

Your spicy and tasty sauteed capsicum is ready to be served.!!!

Kitchen Masti Points.


  1. You can omit tamarind paste and add lemon juice to it for a different taste.
  2. Ginger garlic paste of about 1 tsp can be mixed into the Masala.
  3. If you wish the side dish to be in a gravy consistency, then you can increase the water.
