Rava Dosa Recipe For Breakfast

Rava dosa, a traditional South Indian Dosa has its own unique taste. It is extremely simple to prepare and is an ideal recipe for breakfast. There are many methods to prepare this dosa. I have shown you one of the easiest and the best methods out there. You can use both raw rice as well as rice flour for preparing the dosa. Please remember that if you are using raw rice, then you will have to soak it for an hour and grind it later on.

How To Prepare Rava Dosa.

This dosa requires around 40 minutes to prepare.


Ingredients  For Rava Dosa


  • Fine rava ( chiroti rava ) - 1 cup.
  • Rice flour - 3 / 4 cup.
  • Maida ( all purpose flour) - 1 / 2 cup.
  • Salt - as required.
  • Curds - 1 / 2 cup.
  • Coriander leaves - 3 strings.
  • Jeera seeds ( cumin seeds ) - 1 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp.
  • Curry leaves - a few.
  • Oil - as required .
  • Ghee -  for serving .
  • Water - as required.
  • Green Chilli - 2

Method To Make Rava Dosa

  • Take a big mixing bowl and mix in all the flours, salt, turmeric powder, rava, chopped coriander leaves, curds, curry leaves , jeera seeds and chopped green chilli.
  • Add around 2 cups of water slowly and mix it well so that no lumps are formed.
  • The batter should be of quite thin consistency resembling that of a buttermilk.
  • Now heat a pan or a griddle and smear oil all over it.
  • Spread the dosa batter ( not by pouring like other dosa, but splash it in a circular form all over the pan covering it completely ) and cover the lid for few minutes.
  • Now spread a few drops of oil around the dosa and when it turns crispy and golden colour transfer it on to the plate.

Your instant rawa dosa is ready to be served along with ghee.!!!

Kitchen Masti Points.

  • Once the dosa batter is mixed with the water, keep it aside for an hour.
  • This dosa has to be cooked in medium to low flame or else, the dosa will not turn out crispy.
  • Powdered pepper corns can be added to the batter.
  • Coconut chutney and sambar goes on well along with this dosa.
  • This Dosa has to be eaten when it is hot, or else it will loose its crispiness.
