Akki Rotti ( Rice Pancake / Roti )

Akki roti otherwise known as Rice Roti / Pancake is perhaps one of the traditional dishes of South India. Rice flour is available in all the departmental stores or else you can even prepare it at home. It is a healthy breakfast as it contains carbohydrates which gives energy. The recipe goes as follows :

How To Prepare Akki ( Rice Flour ) Roti

This roti requires about thirty minutes to prepare and the ingredients mentioned here is enough for 2 rotis.

Ingredients For Akki Roti


  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Onions - 1 big sized
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Coriander leaves - 6 to 7 sprigs
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Buttermilk - 1 tbsp
  • Coconut scrapings - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - as required
  • Dil leaves ( sabasige ) - 1 bunch
  • Water - As required


Method To Make Akki Roti


  • Heat a vessel with one cup of water and salt in it.
  • When the bubbles appear, lower down the flame and add the rice flour into it.
  • Mix the flour well and switch off the flame.
  • Add chopped onions,salt, coriander leaves, chopped green chillies, coconut scrapings, dil leaves and buttermilk into the vessel.
  • Mix it well and add water only if required.
  • The dough should not be too watery but in a semi solid state.
  • See to it that you are able to roll out a sized ball preferably in the shape of an orange.
Akki Roti Rice Pancake Recipe
  • Now heat a iron griddle or pan.
  • In the mean time, place the rice ball on a brown bind paper greased with oil.
  • Flatten the ball into thin sized circles with your palm.
  • You can grease oil if the dough sticks to your hand.
  • Transfer the bind sheet along with the roti, then turn it upside down and place it on the tawa.
  • Completely release the paper from the roti.
  • Add one tsp of oil over the roti and flip it on to the other side when it gets slightly roasted. 
  • Add one tsp of oil again and leave it to get roasted.
  • Now transfer the roti onto the serving plate.


Your yummy akki ( rice ) roti is now ready to be served.!!!

Kitchen Masti Points


  1. You can also add grated carrot into the dough mixture to make it more nutritious.
  2. You can use coconut oil while roasting the roti for a unique taste.
  3. It tastes good with garlic chutney or coriander chutney.
